Although we often associate learning disabilities with school performance, people with these problems struggle with these challenges their entire lives. That is why it is important for them to discover strategies for learning that will help them long after they leave the academic universe.

Learning Is For Life

Across America children look at their homework and whine, “When will I need to know this in real life?” In reality, they probably won’t. It is unlikely your child will ever need to calculate a hypotenuse, know what the inside of a frog looks like, or know what year the War of 1812 was fought. However that’s not what school is for.

In school, students learn how to learn. The ability to study, research, organize and access information is an essential part of everyday life. Long after we leave school behind us, we carry our teachers’ lessons with us. When we are taught new skills at our job, learn to change our own oil to save money, or study gardening because we enjoy it, we are able to do so because of what we learned in school.
